Ligris Announces Leadership Transition: Founder Kosta Ligris Steps Down To Pursue PropTech Ventures
Ligris + Associates (“Ligris”) announces a senior management transition in which firm founder Kosta Ligris will step down as CEO and Managing Partner to pursue new ventures in the emerging PropTech (property technology) space.
Effective June 1, 2019, Ligris’ Chief Development Officer Nikolaos (Nik) Ligris and Chief Operating Officer Christos Viores will become Co-Managing Partners to lead day-to-day operations, including lateral recruitment, practice management, and business and professional development. Kosta Ligris will remain as a firm board member and advisor, but will no longer manage his own law practice. Long term, Ligris will continue to offer strategic counsel and exceptional legal service in the areas of commercial and residential real estate law, business law, trusts & estates and tax services.
Kosta said, “After obtaining my MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management in 2018, I immersed myself in the innovation ecosystem, especially as it relates to the PropTech industry. I am now the CEO and co-founder of two PropTech start-ups, and I believe these companies and their technology have enormous potential to change the real estate industry as we know it.”
“Ligris has always been at the forefront of technology in delivering legal, title and settlement services,” continued Kosta, “and the next chapter of my career is to bring transformational change to the entire industry. It is an exciting time to be a part of the future of real estate and even more exciting to be at the forefront of the revolution.”
“It is bittersweet to leave the law firm that I founded and helped grow into one of the largest and most respected transactional real estate law firms and title agency operations in New England,” Kosta said, “but I leave the firm in the capable hands of partners Nik and Christos, who have more legal and managerial experience than I had when I started Ligris. They both bring passion, excitement and common sense to all aspects of their work every day.”
Kosta Ligris founded Ligris + Associates in 2004. His practice concentrates on residential and commercial real estate transactions, and he represents buyers, sellers, and developers in the acquisition, sale and development of residential and commercial real estate. He also serves in a general counsel capacity for certain investors and developers by providing guidance on various legal matters and coordinating representation with other lawyers and law firms. Kosta has advised banks, lenders and real estate firms regarding regulatory compliance with state and federal laws and regulations involving residential transactions and lending, including the Truth in Lending and RESPA Integrated Disclosure Rule (commonly known as TRID or “Know Before You Owe”), the American Land Title Association’s Best Practices, cyber-security, and other relevant industry challenges and changes. He is also approved closing and transactional counsel for some of the country’s largest mortgage lenders and some of Massachusetts’ largest commercial and residential mortgage brokers and banks.
Nik Ligris concentrates his practice on residential and commercial real estate transactions. He takes special pride in helping people buy and sell homes, real estate investors make a living, and lenders of all sizes ensure their loans are protected. His transactions can range from a first-time buyer’s purchase of a starter condominium to very large scale commercial transactions for some of the area’s largest multifamily operators. He has represented more than one hundred first-time homebuyers and he currently represents more than a dozen active real estate investors and developers on all of their transactional legal needs. Nik works closely with the institutional clients that rely on Ligris for their legal, settlement and title needs.
Christos has been the firm’s Chief Operating Officer and a member of the firm’s senior management team since 2010. He works with the management team to design and oversee the firm’s strategic growth and development plans. Christos is responsible for the planning and implementation of the firm’s administration, operations, technology, human resources, and practice management. He also develops and oversees all financial, administrative, regulatory compliance protocols, and processing operations.
